Clinical and General Psychology

  • Services and standards

    We provide a one-stop referral service for medical practitioners seeking to provide focused psychological solutions to clients (adults and adolescents) with conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression/mood disorders, trauma, substance misuse, adjustment disorders, and developmental disorders.

    Following receipt of a referral, the general length of the waiting list is 4+ weeks, unless greater urgency requested. We will contact you by telephone or mail to inform you of your appointment. If you have any specific time frames that are unavailable please contact Torrens House as soon as you hear from us.

    Written clinical feedback will be provided to the referring Medical Practitioner following 6-sessions, with additional progress reports as required.

    All Torrens House psychologists are members of the Australian Psychological Society, have approved skills, training and experience in evidence-based psychological interventions, and are committed to the code and conduct of their professional association.

    Torrens House does not provide crisis intervention services. If you or your client requires a more immediate response, try your local or after hours contact medical services, or the public mental health triage services (MHTS) on 13 14 65.

    Torrens House seek to provide quality clinical services to improve the psychological functioning of patients. Generally, we do not provide medico-legal opinion or Family Court services. However, non-medical reports or medico-legal services may be provided at the discretion of the psychologist.

  • Referrals

    GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (2710/2717):

    To obtain a GP Mental Health Care Plan, you will need to contact and arrange an appointment with your regular GP. This is an assessment referral done by the GP and then forwarded onto us. If eligible, the plan entitles you to the Medicare rebate of up to 10-sessions in a calendar year.

  • Private Referral

    You can refer yourself to our practice; you will need to cover the full cost of the fees in doing so. Please check with your Private Health Care fund whether you ae eligible for reimbursement.

  • GP Referral

    This is a single full fee-paying referral not covered by Medicare. This referral is made by your regular GP. 


    Patient Fees (based on 60-minute consultation):

    Bulk billed (no-gap)


    Pensioner and Health Care Card holders (Medicare)

    $150.00 - $190.00 


    Patients with Workcover, other accepted accident or insurance claims;     

     AMP Programs.

    $190.00 - $230.00


    Medicare Claims are made electronically on day of consult.

Couples Counselling

  • Services and standards

    One of our clinicians provides focused couples/marriage counselling to clients (adults only) in relationship management, focused healing and communication.

    Following receipt of a referral, the general length of the waiting list is 4+ weeks, unless greater urgency requested. We will contact you by telephone or mail to inform you of your appointment. If you have any specific time frames that are unavailable, please contact Torrens House as soon as you hear from us.

    This service seeks to provide quality counselling services to improve the mental wellbeing of the patients. It does not seek to provide medico-legal opinion or Family Court services. However, non-medical reports or medico-legal services may be provided at the discretion of the psychologist.

  • Referrals

Hypnosis

  • What is Hypnosis?

    At Torrens House we have two psychologists trained in the use of hypnosis to assist with therapy. Hypnosis seeks to use naturally occurring techniques to assist you to make changes to your thinking or a problematic behaviour. The use of the subconscious mind can assist the development of new thinking habits which in turn produce new, more accurate and helpful emotions, thoughts and behaviours.

  • EAP Program

    Torrens House based in Victor Harbor provides psychological services to some SA government Departments and agencies, local government organisations and private organisations across the southern Fleurieu. Please enquire from your employer how to access your employers’ assistance program.


    Our strategy is characterised by a quick response to the expectations and demands of our clients, professional service delivery, as well as developing and implementing practical solutions to issues wherever possible.


    We have experienced and highly qualified psychologist who are well equipped to meet the broad demands of both organisations and individuals in the workplace and the wider community.


    "On the job" performance depends directly on employees' personal wellbeing. Factors that affect employees' wellbeing impact on their job performance in many ways. 

    Marital and family problems, stress, workplace conflict, discrimination, emotional problems (among many more factors) can all affect individuals' personal welfare. Problems such as these are the target of the Employee Assistance Program being offered.


    Personal crises faced by employees have considerable consequences for the employee themselves, as well as effects that extend to those working around them and to the company itself. We believe that your employees can benefit from an Employee Assistance Program and research has consistently demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of such services for employers.

    Supportive, confidential counselling is provided by appropriately qualified professionals dedicated to helping employees through the problems they experience. 


    We take pride in our Employee Assistance Program being timely, effective and efficient in meeting the needs of our clients. Whilst the program conforms to the guidelines laid down by the National Association of Employee Assistance Providers, we also endeavour to be innovative in the way in which we deliver and measure the services we provide. The Employee Assistance Program guarantees independence, confidentiality, immediate responsiveness, offer of service within five days and well qualified clinicians with a broad range of skills.

    We endeavour to provide our clients with information and strategies to help improve both organisational and individual quality of life.


    Our clinicians are very familiar with local industry and community concerns and are well established practitioners in their own right. 

     

    We have developed over time an extensive network of other allied health and business professionals who can be called upon to provide their expertise when appropriate. Our approach to resolving psychological issues are highly practical and one that is well regarded by uses of our service.

  • Stress management

    Effective stress management continues to be of significant concern to individuals and organisations. Torrens House clinicians provide well-researched and practical training programs to groups, as well as support and strategies to those people seeking a more tailored approach to their situation.


    Our one-day training program is based upon an “all of person” approach and includes the following modules:

    • Identification of stress symptoms
    • Work and non-work related causes of stress

    Individual and organisational stress management strategies including:

    • Communication 
    • Assertion 
    • Relaxation 
    • Cognitive therapy
